It was sort of by accident really. We wern’t meaning to head out to an open mic. Some of us just wanted tacos. Being without a guitar I even had to borrow one, this should tell you how much we weren’t planning this. With the power of a high def cameras in our pockets (IE: the iPhone 4) we were able to capture some truly subpar video/audio of this accidental event.
Last week we spent the better part of the holiday Monday crashed out on a beach. We also hit up Raw Canvas for their weekly open mic. We went with our friend Jason from Calgary who got up and did a few songs as well. Jason sings ‘feeling alright’
Josh grabed some video of us with his iPhone so i am going to share that with you here
Yesterday was the first day of what will hopefully be many live street performances that we will be doing at random locations and at random times throughout Vancouver this glorious summer. Yes we have acquired ourselves a street performers license.
Our very first foray into street performing was a gentle one. We choose a fairly quiet section of Granville street and set up on a bench facing each other rather then standing facing the ‘crowds’ & that was exactly how we liked it. We played every song we knew well enough to play, including some that we weren’t so confident at. :)
That & we made ourselves a whole dollar. It was a dollar with an awesome compliment so that is all we needed to call it all a raging success.
Want to see us rock out the next time we are out and about? Watch twitter for we will announce when and where we will be playing.
My Friend Lisa (well 66% of us anyway) went out to take in Open Mic night at Raw Canvas in Yaletown. This is the first performance in front of complete strangers that we have ever done. Miranda Grabbed a clip or two from our table. It was scary and absolutely exhilarated all at the same time.
Here we have a series of attempts at an epic ‘My Friend Lisa‘ photobooth photoshoot.
The Idea: Simply we wanted to have Darren & I jumping up as high as we possibly could at the exact same time with Shannon standing in front sporting an epic rockstar pose. This seems like it should be simple enough, right? WRONG!
Above: This was the absolute best photo out of all our many futile attempts to jump at the same time.
Below: Me cursing out Darren for being a bad keeper of time, while Shannon laughs :)
Above: We try it again
Below: We simply give up and move on to the obligatory Rock Star band pose.
All in all fun!
Oh and yes Darren isn’t wearing any pants. Why because he is the drummer, and drummers don’t wear pants. :)
We are broadcasting our jam tonight live for all to hear! This is a practice so don’t expect the worlds most awesome performance or anything. We just wanted to show off our newly painted & sound treated rehearsal space and sing a few songs for you all :) Live Videos by Ustream
The initial edits are coming along quite nicely so we thought that we might post a few more shots from the day! We are still not saying what we are up to but hopefully it will be awesome!
hopefully in the next few weeks we will be able to start showing some edited clips and maybe even a little bit of how we are doing this all. For now however we will all have to contend with mere photos. :)
In what could be considered an overly ambitious effort we are working on creating some awesome music videos to go with our songs. As such, 66.6% of My Friend Lisa spent today filming part two of what I am sure will be many mini filming sessions. We are going to keep the songs/video/premise as a bit of a surprise, at least until it is finished, but we thought it best to tease you all with some production stills from the day.
We really have no ETA for said awesome, but if you keep watching you may see some genius eventually :)
Last week we were having our usual Thursday night jam session when I busted out a new camera I just bought that does video! Naturally we had to film ourselves rocking out, so after some quick setup we did just that. This was filmed in four complete run though’s and then small shots of some individual parts. That’s it, that’s all, nothing super fancy, nothing particularly amazing, just us jamming away on film.
Let us know what you think of our foray into the world of video, & stay tuned for the possibility of new awesome My Friend Lisa videos.
